A New Theory On Time Indicates Present And Future Exist Simultaneously

According to a new controversial theory, everything around us is intricately planned, and each and everyone’s destiny has already been decided. The new theory suggests that time does not PASS and that everything is ever-present.

In fact, time is not linear as we have been thinking all along, and everything around us is ever present.

The researchers indicates that time should be regarded as a dimension of spacetime, as relativity theory holds — so it does not pass by us in some way, because spacetime doesn’t. Instead, time is part of the uniform larger fabric of the universe, not something moving around inside it.According to a scientist, everything that has happened, and everything that will happen is in fact occurring at this very moment as time is positioned in space.

The new theory proposed by Dr. Bradford Skow, an associated professor of philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) indicates that if we were to look down on the universe, we would actually observe time and events spreading out in all directions.

So what does this actually mean? Well, it suggests that time as we know it is incorrect, in other words, it’s not linear as we have been thinking all along. In fact, everything around us is ever present.

The new theory is detailed in Dr. Skow’s book, Objective Beginning, where he writes: “When you ask people, ‘Tell me about the passage of time,’ they usually make a metaphor.

“They say time flows like a river, or we move through time like a ship sailing through the sea.”

The author argues that he “wouldn’t want to believe in that unless I saw good arguments for it.”

In “Objective Becoming,” Skow aims to convince readers that things could hardly be otherwise. To do so, he spends much of the book considering competing ideas about time — the ones that assume time does pass or move by us in some way. “I was interested in seeing what kind of view of the universe you would have if you took these metaphors about the passage of time very, very seriously,” Skow says.

Dr. Skow believes that in a so-called ‘block universe- a theory which states that the past, present and future exist simultaneously.

In other words, this means that once an even has occurred, it continues to exist somewhere in space-time.

The new ‘controversial’ theory is backed up by Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity which indicates that space and time are in fact part of an intricate four-dimensional structure where everything that has occurred has its own coordinates in space-time.

Dr. Skow further details:

“The block universe theory says you’re spread out in time, something like the way you’re spread out in space. We’re not located at a single time.”

Dr. Skow agrees that while things change and we see time as if it were passing, Dr. Skow believes that we are in a ‘scattered conditions’ and that different parts of time may be dotted around the infinite universe.

  1. Then what are "we",of past ,present or future? What I am not comfertable in this theory is that it authenticates ASTROLOGY.

    1. It doesn't authenticate astrology, it attempts to show our version of Real time as an antiquated theory.

    2. One step closer to dumping space all together, but let’s be honest his theory isn’t new. I’ve been writing about all times existing simultaneously, omnidirectional time for years.
A point of note though. Whilst he states “ever present” he obviously doesn’t understand the mechanism.
The universe IS a temporal difference engine.
      E=t NOT MC2.

  2. I remember back around 1960 in elementary school "I asked myself" (not a precise description) how the past and the future "merge into the present". The Universe did not answer that question at that time but much later.
The past and the present are fictional representations with no real substance nor value. The present moment is the only real time there is. But there is a "secret" that most westerners are unable to appreciate because they hardly ever experience real time. The "secret" is that the present moment is the gateway that enables us to experience Eternity.
Thus the headline "... present and future exist simultaneously" is at once highly misleading (to the western reductionist mind) and also highly accurate, since present and future are One in the field of Eternity.
There is another aspect to that theme. It is in the present that we create what we commonly call the "future"; which of course is no longer the future when it occurs. Let me not expand on that.

    1. severe mistake at the very beginning. It is the past and the future that are fictional representations, NOT the present

  3. Interesting. Without time as opportunity or free will there is no movement, only stasis. Time allows consciousness to stream rather than to remain within a void. However, all activity within free will time is recorded in akasha, a very subtle "light substance" (the Book of Life) so we can review our choices for learning and growth. Time and space are definitely influenced by consciousness, which can reshape or bend them through volition. Those super conscious spirits who live beyond (or sublimely within) our human space-time continuum can perform seeming miracles. The determinant is consciousness, which the new (awakened) physics now agrees influences space-time.

  4. Bohr's Quantum theory says the quality of the result of an experience is directly and instantaneously connected with the quality of observer. When Einstein says SPACETIME, both are saying: TIME = SPACE = PRESENT MOMENT. Like the positions of balls inside a bag. Change the positions not adjust the clock.

  5. I introduced this "new" theory already in 2012 in my perception of "Total Simultaneity" see also my latest participation in the FQXi essay contest 2018 : entitled "Foundational Quantum Reality Loops" https://fqxi.org/community/forum/topic/3008

  6. ?? This is confusing... To me, time does not exist. I haven't researched it but I think it is just an invention of man. It is no more than a mechanism to make calculations simpler. Think about how difficult it would be to explain "velocity," for example.

  7. My time theory of matter is an attempt at a deeper description of nature by thinking of an elementary particle not as a little point or a little loop of vibrating string but as a moment in time fluctuating at its ultimate extreme levels.

  8. This isn't a new theory or idea. The core idea here has been offered countless times including by Einstein himself; that time is effectively an illusion and that past, present and future all exist at once. Hawking discussed the idea of Imaginary Time which is orthogonal to linear time. As soon as you get rid of the conventional idea of Time then Space also falls by the wayside. I think this is just another restated version of a familiar idea.

  9. As a theory it is interesting (though not wholly original, as anyone who has read science-fiction can attest), but it lacks support. There's literally nothing to indicate that this is the nature of time. I posit that time does not exist at all. My theory has as much support as this, and some might say a little more.

  10. Anyone remember the argument of Xeno..?..Goes like this..Between any two points we can divide in half..and divide again and again..because there is an an infinity of points between one and the other..Now ..we understand that we can not move thru infinity..thus all movement from point A to point B is an illusion..so all movement..and therefore all change is illusion..
Socrates (I believe) countered this argument by walking...yes walking..from one place to another..from point A to...well you guessed it..And said said that the argument of Xeno is logically correct...but then asked..”How did i get over here?”Hmmm?
